  • Ed Fries Microsoft Xbox founder advises job seekers to Build Something with Game Careers

Ed Fries, a founder of the Microsoft Xbox console, met with David Smith of Game Careers and Interactive Selection at the Montreal Interernational Games Summit ( MIGS) in Montreal in November 2010. His advice for job seekers looking to apply for a job in the games industry is: “I think the best way to get into the industry is to build something. These days the tools are all there. If you are a programmer you can make a game, if you are an artist you can make a game and show off your abilities. If you are a musician make some game music. It is a business about creating things and it is important to take classes and learn about what is important in your field. But most important is to go out and make stuff and then show off what you made.”

Ed is now involved with over 15 companies including Mixamo, Razer, Canesta, Exponential Entertainment, Z2live, Smoking Gun Interactive, Meteor Solutions, BreakAway games, Bigstage, Figure prints, Wild Tangent, Emotive Systems, Airtight hames, Dhruva Interactive and Vyk.
